The McLaren Formula One team will end decades of tobacco sponsorship after signing a controversial three-year deal with whisky manufacturer Johnnie Walker. The McLaren team's deal was immediately condemned by alcohol concern groups who fear the move will signal the start of alcohol replacing tobacco advertising as a major source of revenue for the sport.

King Mswati III of Swaziland, Africa's last absolute monarch, has hit back at mounting criticism of his extravagant lifestyle by banning all photographs of his growing fleet of luxury cars. A royal decree subsequently published in The Times of Swaziland declared it was no longer permissible to take pictures of his majesty "when he alights from his car". The British-educated King has a fleet of luxury cars, while seventy per cent of the population live in absolute poverty and unemployment is 40 per cent.

Japan's Honda Motor Co. is seeking approval from local authorities to expand into car production in Vietnam by investing an extra $58 million. According to the Dow Jones newswire, Honda is planning to make less-than-nine-seat cars from this year to sell in Vietnam.
