A new survey for the RAC School of Motoring shows that many learner drivers are putting their faith in myths about who passes and who fails driving tests. One of the most common myths is that candidates have a better chance of passing outside the capital, which has been proved to be false. And one of the weirdest is that women who wear Pat Butcher style earrings will fail, as they annoy examiners.
Learner drivers are instead being urged to focus on preparing well for their test, and getting to grips with the new test requirements, where drivers must know more about the workings of the car, and practical measures such as knowing how to check your tyres.
"What gets people through the driving test in real life is high quality training, using the best and most advanced technology and tuition methods, and careful preparation", says BSM managing director Paul Atkinson.
"We might chuckle at some of these odd ideas but, in reality; the test candidates who believe in them might as well put their trust in Cornish pixies or rabbits' feet."
