Car Choice: Men vs Women
Marketing data, supplied by NOP World, a market research firm, shows which cars American men and women prefer. The figures show clearly what men want- fast, faster, scarily fast and expensive cars.
The Porsche 911 headed the men’s table with more than double the average males wanting one above any other car, but it didn’t even reach the top ten for women. Other cars at the top of the macho list include the Ford GT super car, Maserati Spyder, Jaguar XK8 sports car and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
Women tend to be less adventurous and choose less expensive cars. They add up the good points, subtract the bad points, and then compare the result with the cost of the car. Then they think carefully about the result. According to the survey the most womanly car, is the yet-unreleased Pontiac G6 convertible. The closest other passenger cars are the Suzuki Forenza and the Volkswagen New Beetle.
For men, it seems, it’s all about ego. Choosing a bigger/ faster car outweighs the small matter of whether they can afford it. A man may be living in a shed and dressed in bin-bags after buying a Porsche 911, but he can drive with his head held high and chest puffed out.
